Official Communication from the Desk of the Supreme Commander

FOR IMMEDIATE DISSEMINATION

Are you disappointed by the unwillingness of Republicans to repeal "Brady Bill" Clinton's unconstitutional attacks on your right to keep and bear arms? Do you feel that "Promissory Newt" Gingrich has artfully dodged any commitment to his largest and most vital constituency? Namely, You - the gun owners of America.

You, who gave the Republicans control of the House.
You, who gave the Republicans control of the Senate.
You, whom the Republicans will now insist should give them the White House in 1996.

It is you who must first give the Republicans what they need most of all, but which they so obviously lack. That's right, you've got to provide them with the Balls to fight for your rights. This is your opportunity to do just that.

Attached is GOLF's new "Promissory Newt". Please look it over, then fill in the blanks, sign it, and return it along with your $5 check or money order payable to GOLF In exchange, beginning on April 15, 1995, we will send two golf balls, (a Brady Ball and a Crime Ball) in your name, to "Promissory Newt" Gingrich. This will provide the Republicans with over 3 months to repeal these unconstitutional laws before we initiate our variation of pin the tail on the donkey. If they fail to do so by April 15, we will mail them the necessary balls beginning on Tax Day. This will ensure that the new Speaker of the House begins receiving our message on or about April 19, the anniversary of the Waco Massacre. With over 60 million gun owners across the U.S., this will be a memorable way to provide the Republicans with the testicular fortitude they so desperately need, and to commemerate this ignominious anniversary.

Miguel Cartero,
Supreme Commander
Gun Owners Liberation Front

P.S. GOLF encourages gun rights groups across the nation to support, borrow, or even steal the idea for this campaign. We only ask that the wording of the "Promissory Newt" remain unchanged. In addition, we would greatly appreciate it if your group would track and report to us how many balls your group has sent to "Promissory Newt". We want to be able to track and issue updates on the progress of this campaign. Our goal is to see to it that the new Speaker of the House receives at least 1 million golf balls in 1995.

acknowledge that I lent support, in the form of my vote, to Republican party candidates for Congress on or about November 8 1994. In exchange for this support I demand that at least 218 Republican U.S. representatives and 51 Republican U.S. senators vote to repeal, in their entirety, the following unconstitutional pieces of legislation:

  1. The Brady Act, which passed the U.S. Congress in November of 1993.
  2. The ban on semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity (e.g., greater than ten round) magazines, commonly referred to as the Feinstein Amendment, that was attached to the Omnibus Crime Bill which passed the Congress in August of 1994.

If the Republicans in Congress should pass this legislation only to have it vetoed by President Clinton, it will be obvious that a Republican President is needed in the White House. However, if they fail to introduce and pass legislation repealing these tyrannical laws, it will be obvious that the Republicans, just like the Democrats, don't recognize my right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Consequently, I will be forced to assume that the Republicans are hiding behind Bill Clinton and merely using his potential veto as an excuse. I will recognize this excuse as an attempt to cover up the inability of the Republican leadership to marshall even its own members in defense of my rights; and that the Republican Party is nothing more than a Gelded Elephant - unworthy of the respect or the support of this gun owner.

In such case I will be obliged to vote against the Republican candidate for President of the United States in 1996. I will choose instead to cast my vote for the candidate of any third party which has, repeatedly and unequivocally, affirmed its unwavering support of my right to keep and bear arms.
